Part one of Marketing Bootcamp saw two China marketing experts, Natasha Fang and Preeti Kumar, educating fellow marketers and professionals on important strategies, approaches, and principles for success in the Chinese market.

We started with Natasha Fang, founder and CEO of Tolmao Group, discussing the key ideas behind a successful Go-to-Market-Strategy in China. Natasha showed that before an idea can become a product, it is vital to know the consumer you plan to target inside and out. Her workshop emphasized this concept: each team had to discuss exactly who they wanted to market to before figuring out how they’re approach through three initiatives, objectives, and measurable goals.

Next Preeti Kumar, founder of Amplify Asia took the group on a deep-dive into KOLs. She spoke knowledgeably about how KOLs are still powerful marketing tools, even amidst the proliferation of fake followers and content of social media channels. Preeti’s workshop cemented the fact that companies need to understand their consumer in order to make best use of their KOL budget. In her workshop, teams got the opportunity to walk through a customers discovery of a product by analyzing on which platforms the customers interacted with the product.

After a successful Part 1, we were joined by more than fifty professionals for Part 2, where three industry experts shared their stories about business failures and successes and how they have overcome the challenges of doing business in different parts of the world.

First, we were joined by David Collier, founder of Rikai Labs. He went in depth on chatbots and how your business can use them to better understand the consumer. We learned that chatbots are most effective when their are clear objectives, expectations, and incentives established, a principle that can be applied to any area of business. When chatbots are successful, they increase user engagement, and increase conversion and retainment rates.

Alex Duncan, co-founder of KAWO, was next to speak. An incredible storyteller, he walked us through some of his early business failures and the lessons he learned from them. One must listen to the history of the industry and truly understand to whom they are marketing. Just because your competitors are doing something does not mean that they are successful or that their model is a good fit for your business.

Continuing the theme of “focusing on the consumer,” Co-Founder of Life Solutions, Jon Newton, gave insight into his past failures, the challenges he has faced, and the solutions he used to overcome them. He learned how crucial it is to educate your target audience when bringing a new concept to market; using creative marketing strategy to communicate a message simply is key and a tactic Jon has used to further some of his greatest successes.
